KSINC's First Solar Powered Tourist Boat
The Kerala State Inland Navigation Corporation (KSINC) has launched a solar powered tourist boat named Suryashu that can generate 27 kW of energy. The boat is also equipped with a generator, which will help power the passenger lift system and air-conditioners. The solar panels will provide approximately 75% of the vessel's energy needs, while the remainder will be met by power generators.
This boat has been built in Sri Lanka for Rs 3.95 crore, which can carry 100 passengers. Cyril V. Abraham and Technical Manager Anup Kumar are the Commercial Managers of the boat who will look after it.
Packages of KSINC Boat
KSINC is planning to use Suryanshu for two tourism packages.
- The first package named Kadamakkudi package will allow tourists to enjoy sightseeing and kayaking for Rs 799. Kadamakkudi is a group of 14 islands situated at a distance of 10 km from Kochi city.
- The second package will take tourists to Matsyfed Farm in Ernakulam district, where they can go kayaking, paddling, fishing and taste the special seafood dishes offered by the farm.
What is KSINC?
The Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation (KSINC) is a Government of Kerala undertaking that looks after the shipping and inland navigation affairs of the state. Its headquarter is in Kochi. It was formed in 1989 by the amalgamation of Kerala Inland Navigation Corporation (KINCO) established in 1975 and Kerala Shipping Corporation (KSC) established in 1974.
Functions of KSINC:
KSINC barges carry large quantities of material, potable water, petroleum products, acids and other materials through inland waterways in Kerala and the coastal region.
